Ellora caves is one of the  wonder caves it's one of the largest rock-cut monastery temple caves complex in the world. In this caves mainly hindus buddhist and jains gods monuments here.This monuments detected from (600 --1000) CEperiod mainly caves gods goddess and mythological images are found in this caves .In this caves mainly constructed by rashtrakuta dynasty constructed hindu and buddhist caves and jiona caves constructed by yadava dynasty . The monument provided by royals traders and wealthy of region .Ellora caves mainly tourist attraction i the marathwada region in maharashtra. Ellora caves are in world UNESCO(united nation education scientific cultural organisation world heritage site since 1983

GEOLOGY OF ELORA

ABOUT ELLORA CAVES
Approximately there are over 100 caves in ellora at the site .This are excavated from basalt cliffs in chandranagar hills in western ghats 
  • 34 caves are open for site seeing to public remaining caves are closed
  • 1--12( 12 ) caves consist Buddhist religious caves
  • 13--29 ( 17) caves are consist Hindu religious caves
  • 30--34 ( 5) caves are consist Jain religious caves
This caves are built by Hindu dynasty rashtrakuta and yadava  although caves served as monasteries temple and rest stop of pilgrims. The sites location on an ancient trades routes also made it's impotent commercial center in the Deccan region 
In ellora all caves are looking very interesting and beautiful but cave no 16 wonderful architecture are seen in this cave
In this cave first curved Hindu and Buddhist caves 
Ellora caves are divided by three important period by GERI HOCK FIELD MALANDA
Early hindu period  550-- 600  CE
Buddhist phase  600--730 CE
Jains& Hindu  730-- 950 CE
The early caves are build by during the period trikutas and vakatakas dynasty
Buddhist caves were built by chalukya dynasties 
Hindu caves and jiona caves built by rashtras kuta and yadava dynasty
MONUMENTS FOR BUDDHIST  CAVES ( 1--12)

These caves are located southern side  this were built   630-- 700  CE initially it's buddhist caves .
In this caves(1--5 ) caves first phase( 400--600) CE
Cave no (6---12 ) made second phase (650-- 750 CE
Eleven caves out of 12 caves buddhist caves consist viharas (or) prayer hall of buddhist .In this caves shrine gautama buddha and bhodi satva
Cave no 5 it was designed as ahall with a pair of parallel refactor benches in the center and buddha statue in the rear 
Cave no 11 kanheri caves the only two buddhist caves in india arranged such way
Cave 10 vishwakarma cave this cave is a chaitya worship hall called as vishwakarma cave . This built around 650CE.This also know 'carpenter cave ' because rock  has been given finish that has appearance wooden beams in this cave 15 foot statue of sitting buddha
HINDU MONUMENT CAVES 13-29
Hindu caves were constructed during the kalachuri period from the end 6th century to end of 8th century this caves are constructed 2 phase 
9 caves were constructed early in the 6th century
The cave no 14 15 16 were constructed during rashta kuta period 
Cave no 16 is the world largest monolithic cave were completed by 8 century support by king krishna
Early caves dedicated mainly god shiva 
Cave no 29 also called DHUMAR LENA one is the earliest excavation 
Cave no 16 know as the kailash temple is a particularly notable cave temple in indian architecture have been entirely carved out of a single rock
The kailash temple inspired by mount kailash is dedicated lord shiva
JAIN MONUMENT
At the north end of ellora are the five jina caves belonging to digambara these caves excavated ninth and tenth century
